Report: Buying local. The role of procurement in helping to make Australia.

As Australia continues to navigate economic challenges and global uncertainties, the impact and importance of purchasing Australian made goods is critical. Supporting local businesses through targeted procurement strategies and buy local initiatives has many benefits, including:

  • strengthening the economy,
  • creating jobs, and
  • supporting the local manufacturing sector.

Choosing to purchase Australian made products impacts everyone. For consumers, it means access to high quality, locally produced goods that adhere to safety and ethicalstandards. For the economy, it keeps money circulating within Australia, supporting local industries, suppliers, and jobs.

Since 2023, Winc has undertaken a research project to gain insights into the importance of buying local for Australian organisations. Over March and April 2025, we revisited the topic to understand if and how the landscape has changed in the last 12 months.

The 2025 research was conducted online by Taverner Research Group between 27 March – 17 April, with 31 procurement professionals participating. The 2024 research was conducted between 11 March – 20 March, with 22 procurement professionals participating and the 2023 research was conducted between 24 March – 5 April 2023, with 34 procurement professionals participating.
